Well...

Baskin’s Wish - The Amazing Sessions: Unplugged #1

Well I’ve just finished doing a little studio interview for Lionheart Radio. I may have rambled a bit, but on the whole I think I managed to get the right information across. Many thanks to Richard and Daniel for having me in.

I did however describe Baskin’s Wish as ‘surf pop’ which is perhaps not quite right. So here’s a video to correct my poor attempts at music categorisation (it’s never been a strong point of mine). Recorded for Amazing Radio.

Out of the Trees is tomorrow!

Deerhart - Corrina’s Nylon Strings

No more videos about snow! I’m on the train North and seeing more and more of it lying on the ground. It is beautiful but any more and we could run into problems… but the weather forecast for Sunday is bright sunshine so I’ve got my fingers firmly crossed for a still winter’s day, the kind that Northumberland does best.

Anyway here’s a wee video from our headliners Deerhart, with no mention of snow, but still rather lovely.

In other news you can catch me rambling on about Out of the Trees tomorrow on Lionheart Radio at about 10am, so listen in, if the fancy takes you.

Considering the inclement weather that’s been pummelling these isles in the last few days, this song by our afternoon headliners The Cornshed Sisters seemed quite fitting, and quite beautiful too.

Our videos seemed to have worked like an incantation. There’s been a sprinkling of fresh snow in Warkworth over the weekend. Much as it can cause chaos (it nearly cancelled Out of the Trees V) we do like a bit of a real snow.

Here’s another appropriate video from our evening session artist Withered Hand. Come see him, and many other fantastic acts, live on the day.

A beautiful little video from afternoon session artist Wreaths. Quiet and reflective, we’re hoping for cold and peaceful winter weather like this on the day, not the bawbag hurricane currently heading for Northumberland…

Drowned in Sound / The Crack / Lionheart Radio...

We got a lovely mention from Drowned in Sound here:

http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4144157-drowned-in-newcastle-9

And in ‘incoming’ mention on The Crack’s website:

http://www.thecrackmagazine.com/index.php (second from top)

In even more exciting news I will be rambling incoherently on Saturday the 17th of December to Lionheart Radio, I think at about 10am. Never heard of Lionheart Radio? You’ve clearly never spent much time in and around the area of Alnwick then! It’s a lovely little local radio station that dedicates a lot of time and energy to all things North Northumbrian, and they’ve offered me the chance to actually sit in a studio and talk to them about this festival - I’m wondering if they actually know what they’re letting themselves in for…

(Cut out and Keep)

Yes, we’ve done the timings, so you can schedule your day - including the all important question ‘at what time should I sit down for a lovely pub meal in The Hermitage?’ (Rabbit pie! Rabbit pie! Rabbit pie! Actually I’ve never had the rabbit pie but I’ve been told it’s very good… and they do veggie food too, without even much of a grimace)

Enough of my irrelevance. Beneath you will find the listings. If you are an organised type (the kind I yearn to be, but will always ultimately fail) you can print this out and bring it with you on the day. If you’re more like me (and perhaps spend your days organising other people on a grand scale and are therefore categorically incapable of leaving the house with both your purse AND your keys) then there will also be handouts with timings available on the day.

Ta-da!

Exciting news today: our line-up is announced!

Matt has been working very hard putting together a fantastic mix of bands and artists for this year’s event, I could bang on about how wonderfully original and eclectic each and every act is, or I could witter ad nauseum about how there’s something for everyone, or I could just let the acts speak for themselves, which is probably in everybody’s interest…

deathrowradio
(Formerly known as d_rradio) To mark a change in artistic direction, the guys are shelving their laptops and sequencers and playing as a full band. As a result, expect lots of wonderful surprises from an act that we’ve wanted to see play our little festival for years. As fans of the band for many years with their lush, epic, landscape sounds sound tracking our lives- we are looking forward to witnessing this special headline set!

www.myspace.com/deathrowradio

Withered Hand
Playing with Team Hand (O’Messy Life), aka Dan Wilson sings songs about religion, confusion with self deprecating wit missing from many a wannabe earnest songwriter today. His songs speak for themselves in an honest and uncomplicated fashion; you’ll be singing along and punching the air!

http://witheredhand.com/

Here Comes Good Sailing
(Formerly Pilgrims) Featuring members of the much loved Minotaurs, HCGS have a canny knack for a pop tune and have sublime melodies to match. They are playing Club Fandango soon and have supported the Low Anthem so far in their early incarnation.

http://herecomesgoodsailing.tumblr.com/

Deerhart
Headed by our long time OOTT resident artist Trev Gibb, he has assembled the North East’s finest musicians and it is in this outfit that his beautiful arrangements are fully realised. His songs are full of longing as he searches for meaning in subjects about love, growing up and what might become. The production provided by Field Music on his debut album has brought the best out of him and you really can’t afford to miss this eagerly anticipated set.

www.facebook.com/pages/Deerhart/189104577828580

There is also a special WHIP YOUR HAIR DJ SET going on between the changeovers.

Entry for the Hall is £5 on the door with no advance tickets; Hall is open from 7pm.

THE HERMITAGE INN, CASTLE STREET. 3:30-7:30PM

We are very pleased to announce:

The Cornshed Sisters
With their eagerly anticipated debut album due out early next year, witness the pure harmonies and warm, folk-inflected melodies of this quartet who are returning to our festival this year. Everyone should witness their cover of ‘When Doves Cry’ a rare treat that completely transforms the original for the better!

www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cornshed-Sisters/20486589728
http://soundcloud.com/thecornshedsisters

A Woman of No Importance

Marc and Matt playing a special acoustic set with wineglasses and other assorted instruments and re-workings of their back catalogue. If you are a fan, you can get involved by suggesting a Smiths song for them to cover and any requests for songs that you might not have heard at their recent fund raiser in November. The duo used to play together in their early formation in 2004 and tried electric guitars at ‘Bookville’ a forgotten comic/art store that collaborated with other likeminded individuals. Listen to their back catalogue here:

http://www.last.fm/music/A+Woman+Of+No+Importance

Fantasy Rainbow
The very first artist to release music under the new imprint of Tiny Lights Recordings (themselves a new and exciting label quickly establishing themselves) Loved by XFM’s John Kennedy and possessing a young talent that’d make many an old punk jealous. A one-man sound layered wonder!

www.facebook.com/fntsyrnbw
tinylights.bandcamp.com/album/teens-ep

Nev Clay
Underrated is a sorry word but more people need to sit down, have a cuppa or a pint and listen to Nev’s careful craft so we can eradicate this term for good! Delicate stories about life from his perspective, observational, funny and tragic. Everyone should own a copy of Nev’s fantastic album Pearshaped, buy it here:

nevclay.bandcamp.com

Wreaths
Thee Ruiner’s finest hour, OOTT veteran, chief designer, noise architect, hallowed tapes founder and much more facts to stroke your beard to. Embrace your experimental side and prepare to be unprepared and astounded. Search for that deepest, mystical part of your mind and you’ll find him there.

www.myspace.com/wreathstaperecordings

Agerskow
Aka Kate Edwards (Ex Brilliant Mind) kicking off our festival, self described as ‘whimsical chick rock’.

agerskow.bandcamp.c om/

Entry for the afternoon session is £2, no advance tickets. Doors open at 3:20pm.

Prices for this year’s festival are: £10 if you pay on the bus for the festival and the bus journey. Separate prices also available: £4.50 for a return vintage bus ticket, £2 for afternoon session, £5 for Old Memorial Hall event. No advance tickets are available. Money is going to the following cause:

We are supporting the charity- SPOWE UGANDA this year as we did last year, here’s some information on this very worthy cause:
