Well it’s been and gone for another year. Out of the Trees VII was a beautiful event. There’ll be photos and videos and links to come, but for now it’s probably best just to thank those who played, those who came, and those who made it all happen. You are fantastic people, every one of you.

Baskin’s Wish - The Amazing Sessions: Unplugged #1

Well I’ve just finished doing a little studio interview for Lionheart Radio. I may have rambled a bit, but on the whole I think I managed to get the right information across. Many thanks to Richard and Daniel for having me in.

I did however describe Baskin’s Wish as ‘surf pop’ which is perhaps not quite right. So here’s a video to correct my poor attempts at music categorisation (it’s never been a strong point of mine). Recorded for Amazing Radio.

Deerhart - Corrina’s Nylon Strings

No more videos about snow! I’m on the train North and seeing more and more of it lying on the ground. It is beautiful but any more and we could run into problems… but the weather forecast for Sunday is bright sunshine so I’ve got my fingers firmly crossed for a still winter’s day, the kind that Northumberland does best.

Anyway here’s a wee video from our headliners Deerhart, with no mention of snow, but still rather lovely.

Our videos seemed to have worked like an incantation. There’s been a sprinkling of fresh snow in Warkworth over the weekend. Much as it can cause chaos (it nearly cancelled Out of the Trees V) we do like a bit of a real snow.

In even more exciting news I will be rambling incoherently on Saturday the 17th of December to Lionheart Radio, I think at about 10am. Never heard of Lionheart Radio? You’ve clearly never spent much time in and around the area of Alnwick then! It’s a lovely little local radio station that dedicates a lot of time and energy to all things North Northumbrian, and they’ve offered me the chance to actually sit in a studio and talk to them about this festival - I’m wondering if they actually know what they’re letting themselves in for…

Yes, we’ve done the timings, so you can schedule your day - including the all important question ‘at what time should I sit down for a lovely pub meal in The Hermitage?’ (Rabbit pie! Rabbit pie! Rabbit pie! Actually I’ve never had the rabbit pie but I’ve been told it’s very good… and they do veggie food too, without even much of a grimace)

Enough of my irrelevance. Beneath you will find the listings. If you are an organised type (the kind I yearn to be, but will always ultimately fail) you can print this out and bring it with you on the day. If you’re more like me (and perhaps spend your days organising other people on a grand scale and are therefore categorically incapable of leaving the house with both your purse AND your keys) then there will also be handouts with timings available on the day.

Exciting news today: our line-up is announced!

Matt has been working very hard putting together a fantastic mix of bands and artists for this year’s event, I could bang on about how wonderfully original and eclectic each and every act is, or I could witter ad nauseum about how there’s something for everyone, or I could just let the acts speak for themselves, which is probably in everybody’s interest…

(Formerly known as d_rradio) To mark a change in artistic direction, the guys are shelving their laptops and sequencers and playing as a full band. As a result, expect lots of wonderful surprises from an act that we’ve wanted to see play our little festival for years. As fans of the band for many years with their lush, epic, landscape sounds sound tracking our lives- we are looking forward to witnessing this special headline set!

Deerhart
Headed by our long time OOTT resident artist Trev Gibb, he has assembled the North East’s finest musicians and it is in this outfit that his beautiful arrangements are fully realised. His songs are full of longing as he searches for meaning in subjects about love, growing up and what might become. The production provided by Field Music on his debut album has brought the best out of him and you really can’t afford to miss this eagerly anticipated set.

A Woman of No Importance

Marc and Matt playing a special acoustic set with wineglasses and other assorted instruments and re-workings of their back catalogue. If you are a fan, you can get involved by suggesting a Smiths song for them to cover and any requests for songs that you might not have heard at their recent fund raiser in November. The duo used to play together in their early formation in 2004 and tried electric guitars at ‘Bookville’ a forgotten comic/art store that collaborated with other likeminded individuals.
